Requiem service for worn-out Buddhist rosaries

Sekizanzen-in Temple

At the gate, this temple installs a huge Buddhist rosary that was prayed by a Buddhist ascetic who accomplished strenuous “1000-day circumambulation practice” on Mt. Hiei. There is also a requiem service for worn-out Buddhist rosaries to express gratitude for them. 1,000 visitors could receive Buddhist wrist rosaries for free on a first-come-first-served basis.

* Ohitaki-sai Events *

Ohitaki-sai events are traditional thanksgiving ceremonies to express gratitude for rice harvest in autumn.
They are also called as “Winter festivals” and held in each Shinto shrine in Kyoto in November.

Imakumano Jinja Shirine

A traditional Shinto harvest festival (niiname-sai) dating back to ancient mythology and a Buddhist fire ritual burning wooden prayer sticks (gomagi) are performed at the same time. The latter is done by mountain ascetics of Shogo-in Temple.
